What if we performed 1% better?
For more than 100 years, the British Cycling team competed in the Tour de France — and never won. Olympic results were better — but barely.
Something needed to change.
In 2003, the organization hired Sir David Brailsford as the new performance coach. And within five years, the reputation of mediocracy ended.
The British Cycling team dominated the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, winning an impressive seven out of 10 gold medals available in track cycling. Four years later, Bradley Wiggins became the first British cyclist to win the Tour de France. And the accolades only grew from there.
The incredible success of British Cycling wasn’t due to a lucky streak of top talent, nor any transformative training method or innovative technology.
It had everything to do with a mindset.
Brailsford believed in a philosophy known as “the aggregation of marginal gains.” He asserted that if you could improve the minutia of a process, task, tool — anything — by just 1%, you would experience compounded results. Clearly, he was right.
What, you wonder, does this have to do with business and technology? Competing in today’s business landscape can feel like its own version of a Tour de France. It’s a race to beat the competition. The climate and terrain are always changing. And the strength of the team is what determines the win.
But what if we take Brailsford’s advice and focus on the impact of marginal gains? What would happen if you made interactions just 1% better? What if you serviced customers 1% faster? What if you made your cybersecurity 1% stronger? What if you made your employee onboarding experience 1% smoother?
We’ve only just begun to tap the rewards that come when the artificial and the real converge.
We believe you can (and should). And we’ll show you how (and the kinds of results you might achieve).
AI and immersive technologies are rapidly transforming the way all of us experience the world. We’ve only just begun to tap the rewards that come when the artificial and the real converge.
Cost-conscious business leaders may hesitate. Why put too much stock in what appears to be fantastical tech? In reality (no pun intended), solutions such as generative AI and metaverse can drive substantial time and cost savings.
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the enormity of changes in the technology industry. But you might be amazed by how much progress you can make. When you harness the power of technology, micro-improvements add up to big gains over time.
